Tips for Firewood storage:
-
Stack the first layer off the ground and allow air to circulate
around the wood.
-
Softer woods like Pine should always be stored
covered or in a dry area.
-
Harder woods like Douglas Fir won't retain
water if they get wet, so can cope with being stored un-covered.
General tips for burning wood:
-
Get your wood early to allow maximum
drying time
-
Dry wood burns hotter AND cleaner
-
Keep your fire burning well - burning
wood at a high temperature results in a cleaner burn
-
Dry wood won't soot-up your chimney
as much
-
Get your chimney swept regularly -
this will keep your fire more efficient and reduce the risk of a
chimney fire
